The bread stop is there just to line up the loaf before slicing. For best results, do not FORCE the loaf against the stop WHILE CUTTING, it will cause uneven and crooked sliced bread. Just gently place the loaf, then hold it while slicing.

This slicer was a gift for my parents who have been baking their own bread for three or four years. It is difficult to find a really nice gift for parents that have pretty much everything they need, but this slicer was PERFECT! They love it so much they never put it away. Mom mentioned that the end for smaller slices are REALLY small, but they love it so much it doesn’t matter. They just keep the bread in the bag on the slicer, use it, put the bread back in the bag and leave it all sitting by the toaster. Because of the price I was careful to read all the reviews and comments I could find before purchasing this Christmas Gift for myself. I want to say I am very happy with my bread slicer. I find that by holding the bread, not pushing, against the end stop, I have no problem with the stop bulging. And, if I am careful to get the knife within the slots and use shorter, even strokes, I get great, evenly sliced bread. I really love the nutty THIN slices of wheat bread.
After extensive research, I purchased America’s bread slicer as an Christmas present for myself – in fact, I got the package deal, with the bread knife (guaranteed lenth for the slots), plastic bags and very nice clips (3). I compared to much cheaper models but BP kept popping up as the best rated. And, the whole package, cost-wise, was more economical than just buying bread bags + shipping (with no ties!) from King Arthur. I made the decision that I wanted to start baking all my family’s breads homemade, from dinner rolls to sandwich bread. But, I do a hack job cutting anything, and especially homemade wheat bread can be a pain to cut thin, uniform slices. Well I LOVE this slicer, there is NO assembly required, a quick wipe down is all that is requires, the knife is very good (I don’t want to spend $50 on a knife), and you get LOTS of bags. I have frozen my presliced loavesor 2 months at a time and they aren’t freezer-burned. I love how neat and store-bought my loaves look, and I have eager fans of my bread who love it when I present them with a prettily bagged, presliced loaf of bread, ready for sandwiches. Much healthier than store-bought brands, and cost-saving over the long run. I heartily recommend making the $75 investment if you’re a serious bread baker and it makes slicing a breeze.
I reviewed a number of bread slicer guides and luckily stumbled on to the “America’s Bread Slicer”. It is as everyone says: an extremely good product. It’s easy to use and helps me slice consistent evenly slices of home baked fresh bread. I love it. Word of advice: You will need a 10 inch knife. I have an 8 inch knife. It works, but would be so much easier with a longer blade.
I love how America’s bread slicer makes slicing homemade bread so easy. I was always getting different thicknesses in the slices until I got this slicer. I used a bread knife with a 10 1/4″ blade and it worked pretty good. However, I would recommend using a 12″ blade so you can make longer slice strokes. It also folds up and stores very nicely.
